With February fast approaching, the 2010 Winter Olympics Vancouver is almost here, and by now it is becoming well known who the Olympic medal contenders for Team USA and the Canadian Olympics team will be in a variety of Winter Olympics events.

With the 2010 Winter Olympics being hosted in Vancouver, BC, Canada, the number of fans who arrive in support of Team USA and Team Canada is expected to be record-breaking, and marketing opportunities for companies that manufacture and sell the world’s greatest ski gear and snowboarding equipment abound.

What Canada is Focusing On

Canadian Olympics fans this year will have all eyes on the Canadian Olympics hockey team, which has taken home a record-breaking nine gold medals in past Olympic winter games, and has all star hockey veteran Scott Niedermayer leading the pack. Competition will be stiff, as  the Team USA hockey team defeated the Canadian hockey team twice last year in the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup, and the World Junior Hockey gold medal game was also narrowly won by the junior American team.

Other Vancouver Winter Olympics events to look out for will be alpine, freestyle, and cross country skiing. While the Canadian Olympics Team has had some fairly good contenders in years past, a total of six Canadian skiers have recently suffered injuries that have cause them to put up their ski gear for a bit and will not be competing in the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The Vancouver Winter Olympics is thriving, and many fans are now participating in the “Paint the Town Red” campaign, and are donning red in honor of their support of Team Canada. Canadian Kristina groves will be competing in a total of five Vancouver Winter Olympics events, shining up her ice skates and ski gear to take home even more gold medals, and Canadian lugers and the Canadian women’s curling team are showing signs of being the ones to beat at this year’s games.

Team USA Contenders

In the US, Team USA recently announced the players of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics team, with NHL Nashville Predators’ and descendant of a long line of Olympic hockey team players Ryan Suter expected to lead the team to victory. In addition, with increased interest in women’s hockey amongst the states, many people will be tuning in to see the USA women’s hockey team go for the gold.

Team USA long track speed skater Catherine Raney is also expected to return to this year’s winter Olympics for the fourth year in a row, and Team USA has also recently announced that once Olympic hopeful Hannah Kearney will also be joining the US ski and snowboarding team to compete in the Vancouver Winter Olympics this year.

Regardless of whether you are a fan, supporter, hopeful, or an enthusiast, there a large number of 2010 Winter Olympic destinations still free. So pick up some of the latest ski gear, head to the resort, and follow your favorite teams this year!
